Getting Your App Live - What You Need to Do

Welcome to the Street Labs family! We're excited to build your custom iOS app. This guide walks you through everything you need to provide and set up on your end to get your app from contract signing to the App Store.

Your timeline: Most apps launch within 90-120 days from when we start. Some steps need to happen early (like getting your Apple Developer account set up), while others come later. We'll guide you through each one.

0% Complete

Right After Signing (Week 1)

These are the first things to tackle. The sooner you complete them, the sooner we can start building.

Get Your D-U-N-S Number

What it is: A unique business identifier that Apple requires for your Apple Developer account.

Why you need it: You can't set up an Apple Developer Organization account without one.

What to do:

  1. Check if you already have one: https://www.dnb.com/duns/lookup.html
Many businesses already have a D-U-N-S from business loans, leases, or vendor accounts - you just might not know it.
  2. If you don't have one, request it (free, but takes 5-10 business days): https://www.dnb.com/duns-number/get-a-duns.html
  3. Send it to us at luke@streetlabs.pro
Timeline: If you need to request one, start this immediately. It's the longest lead-time item in the whole process.
Set Up Your Apple Developer Account

What it is: Your Apple Developer account is how you publish apps to the App Store. Your app will be listed under your business name, not ours.

What to do:

  1. Go to https://developer.apple.com/programs/enroll/
  2. Choose "Enroll as an Organization" (not Individual - that would list your personal name as the seller)
  3. You'll need:
    • Your D-U-N-S number (from the step above)
    • Your legal business name (must match exactly what's on file with D-U-N-S)
    • Your business address
    • Your business contact info
  4. Pay the $99/year enrollment fee (you pay this directly to Apple, not to us)
  5. Apple may call you to verify your business - answer the call! (It comes from Apple's verification team, usually from a 1-800 number. If you're unsure, you can call Apple Developer support to confirm before sharing info.)
  6. Once approved, invite us to your account:
    • Log into https://appstoreconnect.apple.com
    • Go to Users and Access
    • Click the + button to add a new user
    • Enter email: apple@streetlabs.pro
    • Select role: App Manager (recommended) or Admin
    • Click Invite
    • Let us know you sent it - we'll accept within 24 hours
Timeline: 1-5 business days after your D-U-N-S is confirmed. Apple usually approves quickly, but verification calls can add a day or two if you miss the first one.

Annual cost: $99/year, paid directly to Apple. We'll remind you when it's time to renew.

Confirm Contact Details

Once your Apple Developer account is set up, confirm we have your current contact info on file (we'll reach out if anything's missing).

Confirm Your Square Account is Ready

What we need:

  • Your Square account must be active and in good standing
  • Your menu must be live in Square (we'll pull it via their API)
  • You'll grant us API access (we'll walk you through this - takes about 5 minutes)

What to do:

  1. Log into your Square Dashboard and confirm your menu is up-to-date
  2. We'll send you a secure authorization link (OAuth - like "Sign in with Square")
  3. Click the link, log in to Square, and approve Street Labs' access to your menu and orders
  4. That's it - we handle the rest
Note: The link will redirect back to us after you approve. This is normal - it's how Square confirms your permission.
Timeline: We'll send the authorization link during your first week.

Branding & Design (Week 1-2)

Send us your branding assets and we'll handle the rest.

Brand Assets

What to send:

  • Logo files - Vector format (SVG, PDF, AI) preferred, or high-res PNG. We'll use this to create your app icon and inside the app.
  • Brand colors - If you have hex codes (like #3A5F8C), send them. If not, we'll pull colors from your logo or website.
  • Fonts (optional) - If you have a specific brand font, let us know the name. If it's a custom font, send the files (OTF/TTF) and confirm you have the license to use it in an app.

What we'll create:

  • App icon (1024x1024, formatted to Apple's requirements)
  • Branded app theme (colors, fonts, logo placement)

Where to find your brand assets:

  • If you have a website, your designer probably has all of this
  • If not, just send us your logo and any photos - we'll work from that
Menu Photos (Nice-to-Have)

Good news: If you have a Square Online site or have added photos to your menu in Square, we'll pull those automatically.

If you don't have photos yet: The app works fine without them, but items with photos look better and customers order more. You can add them anytime:

  1. Log into your Square Dashboard
  2. Go to Items > Item Library
  3. Add photos (iPhone photos work great if well-lit)
  4. We'll sync them into the app
Timeline: Not a blocker - you can add photos now, during the build, or even after launch. They sync automatically from Square.

Menu Confirmation (Week 2)

Review Your Square Menu

If you have a Square Online site: Your menu is probably already clean for customers - we'll pull it and show you a preview.

If your menu is POS-only: We'll need to clean it up for customer-facing use. Check:

  • Item names are customer-friendly (not internal codes like "ESP-LG-2S")
  • Descriptions make sense to customers (not just "Latte" - something like "Espresso with steamed milk")
  • Categories are organized how you want them (Espresso Drinks, Pastries, etc.)
  • Modifiers are set up (milk options, size options, add-ons)
  • Prices are correct

What to do:

  • We'll share a menu preview once we pull it from Square
  • Review it and let us know what needs tweaking
  • We can hide seasonal/limited items if needed

Testing the App (Weeks 8-12)

Install TestFlight

What it is: TestFlight is Apple's app for testing apps before they go to the App Store. You'll use it to try your app and give us feedback.

What to do:

  1. Download the TestFlight app from the App Store (search "TestFlight" - it's the official Apple one)
  2. We'll send you an invitation link via email
  3. Tap the link, open it in TestFlight, and install your app
  4. Test it in your shop during real service (place a few test orders, see how it works with your barista workflow)
  5. Send us feedback: bugs, design tweaks, things that feel off
Timeline: We'll send you a TestFlight build as soon as we have something worth testing. You'll get new builds regularly as we add features and fix bugs.

What to test:

  • Place orders with Apple Pay (use a real card for a small order - we'll refund if needed)
  • Try different menu items, modifiers, and sizes
  • Simulate a customer flow: browse, add to cart, check out, track order
  • Show it to your baristas - does the order handoff make sense?
Test Apple Pay

What to do:

  • Place a real order using Apple Pay (start with something small, like a drip coffee)
  • Confirm the payment goes through in Square
  • Confirm the order appears in your Square POS

Why it matters: This is the one thing we can't fully test without your Square account. A quick real-world test catches any issues before launch.

App Store Launch (Weeks 12-16)

Provide App Store Listing Info

Before we submit your app to the App Store, we need a few details for your listing.

What we need:

  • App name (how it appears in the App Store - max 30 characters)
    Example: "Geist Coffee"
  • App subtitle (optional tagline - max 30 characters)
Example: "Order ahead, skip the line"
  • App description (2-3 paragraphs about your shop and the app)
We'll draft this for you, you can edit
  • Keywords (words customers might search for - max 100 characters)
Example: "coffee, espresso, order ahead, pickup, Indianapolis"
  • Support URL (your website or Facebook page - somewhere customers can contact you)
  • Privacy Policy URL (if you have one; we can provide a template if not)
Timeline: We'll ask for this around Week 10-12.
Accept Apple Developer Agreements

What it is: Apple occasionally updates their legal agreements. When they do, you'll get an email asking you to accept the new terms.

What to do:

  • Check your email for Apple Developer notifications
  • Log into App Store Connect (https://appstoreconnect.apple.com)
  • Accept any pending agreements (it's usually a quick "I agree" button)
  • If you don't accept, we can't submit updates to your app

Why it matters: This is one of the few things only you (the account owner) can do. We'll remind you if we see a pending agreement.

Review the App Before It Goes Live

What to do:

  • We'll send you a final TestFlight build and say "This is what we're submitting to Apple"
  • Give it one last test
  • If it looks good, give us the green light to submit
Timeline: Around Week 12-14.

After Launch

Promote the App

What to do:

  • Tell your customers! Put up a sign in the shop, post on Instagram, send an email to your regulars.
  • Encourage customers to leave a review in the App Store (good reviews help new customers discover it).
  • Train your baristas on the new workflow (orders coming in via the app vs. in-person).

We'll help with:

  • A launch announcement template you can post to social media
  • In-store signage (table tents, window clings) if you want them
Report Bugs (First 60 Days)

What it is: The first 60 days after launch are covered by our bug warranty. If something breaks, we fix it at no charge.

What to do:

  • If you see a bug (app crashes, payment fails, menu doesn't load), email us at luke@streetlabs.pro
  • Include: what you were doing, what happened, and your device model/iOS version if you know it
  • We'll respond within 1 business day and fix it ASAP

What counts as a bug:

  • App crashes
  • Payment fails
  • Menu data is wrong
  • Push notifications don't work
  • Order doesn't appear in Square POS

What's not a bug (but we can still help with):

  • You want to change the menu wording
  • You want a different color
  • You want a whole new feature

Those fall under your 4 hours/quarter of free tweaks, or a small paid change order.

Case Study & Testimonial (Founding Partner Only)

If you're a Founding Partner, we'll check in around 6 months post-launch to gather case study data.

What we'll ask for:

  • How many orders come through the app vs. in-store?
  • Has the average ticket size changed?
  • Are customers reordering (coming back)?
  • Any customer feedback you've heard?

What we'll do:

  • Write up a short case study (you'll review before we publish)
  • Ask you to record a quick video testimonial (1-2 minutes, iPhone video is fine)
  • Use it to help other coffee shops see how the app works

Why it helps: Other shops want to hear from a real owner, not just from us. Your story helps us help more shops.

Warm Referrals (Founding Partner Only)

Part of the Founding Partner deal is helping us reach other coffee shops who'd benefit from this. Over the next 12 months, we'll ask you to introduce us to 5 shop owners you think would be a good fit (first 2 within 6 months).

For now, just start thinking:

  • Other local coffee shops you know and respect
  • Owners you've met at industry events
  • Shops in other cities you've visited and loved
  • Anyone in your network who runs a cafe and would appreciate this

When we'll ask:

We'll ask for intros once your app is live and you've seen the results - that way you can speak from experience, not just hype. If someone asks about your app earlier (during TestFlight or right after launch), feel free to loop us in, but there's no pressure until you've had time to see it working.

Why this matters:

Your intro carries weight. When you say "we've been using this for 6 weeks, here's what we've seen," that's credible. If we cold-email them, it's just another sales pitch.

That's it. Everything else is on us.
